Scholarships 2023
Human Resources Development Department of Ivanplats does not only focus on the Education and Training of employees but also looks after the development of community members especially learners from surrounding host communities.
One of the interventions that is included in Ivanplats Social and Labour Plan (SLP) is the Scholarship programme. In this programme, the company with the aid of the schools and Department of Social Development identifies learners that are financially vulnerable and performing well in school especially in Mathematics and Physical Science. Once the learners are identified, Ivanplats sponsors them with stationery including study guides, backpacks and they receive a voucher for school uniform as well. Some of the learners travel longer distance to school on a daily basis and Ivanplats pays for their transport too.
This initiative goes a long way, the company will identify a learner through the support of the Department of Social development in collaboration with teacher motivation to support identified learners all the way to matric. The learner is then advised to apply for a bursary and will be chosen based on the field they want to follow and the results attained.
Between the 17th and the 24th April 2023, the Human Resource Development Department went out to handover the stationery packs and uniform vouchers to identified high school learners on the Scholarship programme. At the moment Ivanplats supports a total of 75 learners across different grades from 18 Secondary schools, where 30 of these learners only started on the programme in 2023. This is an annual process to ensure that these learners have what they need to succeed in their school life.
